Google Play does not offer a formal “pause closed testing” switch for the 12×14 requirement. If you stop actively managing the window, continuity and engagement still move — so either fix quickly or plan a clean restart.
Can You Pause Closed Testing?
Technical answer
No dedicated pause button. Opt-in continuity and review expectations keep running on real calendar time.
Practical reality
You can halt recruitment, ship fixes, and later begin a fresh continuous ≥12 × 14-day stretch before applying. Do not assume a broken mid-window still counts.
Personal accounts after Nov 13, 2023 are in scope. Organization / D-U-N-S accounts are exempt from that gate. Google previously required 20 testers; the minimum is now 12.
When Pausing Makes Sense
Valid reasons
Critical bug, broken onboarding, insufficient testers enrolled, store listing/policy blockers.
Risks
Testers churn, opt-outs, and you may need a brand-new continuous 14-day period.
How to Pause Effectively
If fixable in 1–2 days
Hotfix the closed track (Test and release → Testing → Closed testing), message testers, keep them opted in and opening.
If the app needs major work
Stop counting on the current streak. Improve the build, re-recruit, then run a clean continuous window.
Resuming After a Pause
- Fix root issues.
- Confirm ≥12 real opt-ins.
- Start (or re-establish) 14 consecutive continuous days with usage.
- Track daily; use reminders.
- Apply from the Dashboard only when continuity is intact.
Avoiding the Need to Pause
Self-test first, recruit a buffer, monitor crashes daily, and use Closed Test Pro (or similar) so engagement problems surface before you are forced into a restart.
