If a tester misses one day, does the 14-day window reset?
If a tester misses one open, your 14-day clock usually does not reset — continuous opt-in is the hard rule. Mass missed days or opt-outs are what break eligibility and engagement reviews.
Understanding Missed Days
Single missed days
One person skipping one open is normal. Overall cohort pattern matters more than perfection.
Multiple testers missing days
If many people go dark together, engagement looks weak even if opt-in count still shows 12. Investigate and remind.
Extended gaps and opt-outs
- Multi-day silence across the group → engagement risk
- Opt-out → that tester stops counting toward continuous opt-in
- Dropping below 12 opted in → continuity broken until you recover headcount
Personal accounts after Nov 13, 2023 need ≥12 continuous opt-ins for 14 days. Organization / D-U-N-S accounts are exempt. Google previously required 20 testers; the minimum is now 12.
What to Do When Testers Miss Days
For individual testers
- Send a gentle reminder
- Confirm they are still opted in and on the right Google account
- Keep backups ready
For multiple testers
- Check for crashes or broken updates
- Increase reminder coverage
- Add buffer testers before you fall under 12
For extended gaps
- Treat it as an engagement failure in progress
- Replace inactive testers and stabilize a new continuous window if needed
- Do not create a new Play developer account
Monitor: Test and release → Testing → Closed testing.
Prevention Strategies
Use automated reminders
Daily pushes prevent most “I forgot” misses.
Track daily activity
Catch day-2 silence while you can still recover.
Have backup plans
Recruit 15–18 opted-in testers from day one. Closed Test Pro helps with tracking, reminders, and backfill when someone ghosts.
